The Auslander-Reiten Conjecture for Group Rings
This paper studies the vanishing of $Ext$ modules over group rings. Let $R$ be a commutative noetherian ring and $ga$ a group. We provide a criterion under which the vanishing of self extensions of a finitely generated $Rga$-module $M$ forces it to be projective. Let $Gamma$ be a group, $Gamma'$ a subgroup of $Gamma$ with finite index and $M$ be a $Gamma$-module. We show that $M$ is cotorsion if and only if it is cotorsion as a $Gamma'$-module. Using this result, we prove that the global cotorsion dimensions of rings $ZGamma$ and $ZGamma'$ are equal.
